I have a very good Buffet E11 horn with a David Hite “D” mouthpiece... well . I’ve just wonder if a Buffet E13 or C12 will be a step up for me ?. What is the main difference between an E11 and these models ?. I’ve just checked an E13 and find it good but the sound is not much better than my E11. Maybe the keywork is the difference.
Any thoughts about this will appreciate.
Do you think the keywork is the main reason for an average upgrade ?

If you want to upgrade (and you have the money to do so), you're much better off going for an R13 or RC (or similar - not necessarily Buffet - try all other reputable makes out to see which you like best) as the E13 and C12 are still in the intermediate range, though that's not saying they're not worth it, but an entry level pro clarinet (such as an R13 or an RC) will last you much longer.
If you compare an E11 with an R13 you will notice a huge difference in tone quality - the R13 has a lot more depth and resonance which makes the E11 sound very thin and bland in comparison.
Evaluate which one has the best tone, keywork positions, amount of resistance (personally I like clarinets with little resistance), response and tuning for you - it's an individual thing as to which clarinet you like, and although you can have several makes and models recommended, you can only be the judge of what is best for you - it may be a surprise to find you choose one you never considered. Anything you're not happy with (such as stuffy notes due to poor venting or having spring tensions altered) can usually be sorted out by the shop's repairer.
Yamaha CSG clarinets are very well priced, but take your E11 along with you when it comes to trying out new (or used) pro models so you can compare them directly - as well as comparing all the clarinets on offer with each other.
And take an electronic tuner with you as well.

If you are otherwise satisfied with your E11 you might try upgrading it with an R13 barrel, usually 66mm. I've done this with a number of my students and it usually results in a marked improvement in resistance, tone quality and intonation. See if you can try a number of barrels, as they do differ in bore and taper, even though they are labelled the same.
