 "cold vs warm air"
Author: Old Geezer

I have read somewhere that if one allows the middle of the tongue to lower with the back of the tongue as you ascend you lose control and tone of the higher notes.

One of the correctives mentioned is play with "cold not warm, air."

Can any one say what he means by "cold air not warm air?"

A few of the better threads on this subject;

Also, read Tony Pay's thoughts:

Tony Pay's explanation is good enough for me.

I can't resist adding that a metaphor that has to be defined is useless. Semantics and pedantry fans please restrain yourselves...the subject is clarinet playing and etc.

It's good to hear from someone like Tony once in awhile...authority and experience rule!

it's worth noting that there is also some confusion here- some people confuse "blowing cold air", "blowing as though the air is cold", and "blowing as though you want cold air to be hot". At least one teacher i know at University level has it completely the wrong way around as far as i can tell. I'm sure that the threads listed above would sort it all out.
