I've come across across a buffet student model clarinet, or so it seemed, until I read the description further stating that it was handcrafted in china? Does buffet have production in china? I guess I'm confused, I was not aware that other manufacturers were doing this, like the whole imposter handbag thing recently in the news.

I wouldn't be surprised when Buffet and other mfgrs were tempted to have "their" student-grade clarinets produced in the far east. And we all know, sometimes a carton or two falls off a truck there...

Most likely it's scam, or the cheap price is more than compensated by exorbitant shipping fees.

Be careful. On saxophones we have seen China makers duplicate the Selmer emblem (first just the Selmer name last etched on the horn, then they duplicated the emblem itself).

Yes, a big trademark infringement but they are out there.

It's only a matter of time until they do it to other names and instruments.

here's a thread on SOTW (sax on the web) on a Chinese Selmer with a couple links. the make improving from just the name to the emblem.

Some manufacturers have production in China. Yamaha does for some of it's Q line (or something like that) of flutes, saxes and I think clarinets. Don't quote me, but I read that somewhere.

I didn't know Gemeinhardt flutes were now made in China - it says 'China' on the post rib near the A or Bb toneholes.

yeah....Gemeinhardt closed down their production line in Indiana....they only maintain an office there. I wasn't sure where they were shipping their production line to. Now I know. It's sad but not surprising.
