More on Ken from YouTube:

"Ken Peplowski at the Bern Jazz Festival in 1995
Ken Peplowski has been compared to Benny Goodman--favorably. The noted New York Times music critic John S. Wilson called him "a clarinetist with a Benny Goodman tone and a Buddy DeFranco style." It is not surprising, because Peplowski was a member of Goodman's last working orchestra. But truly Peplowski plays the music that he likes, his own way. He does not try to play like Benny Goodman or anyone else."

If I may suggest some CDs of his, my favorites are the duets with Howard Alden on guitar. They play so beautifully together. I've always thought guitar and clarinet go really well together anyway, but these two guys are special.

But you can't go wrong....all his CDs are great !

It says on his website that he plays Buffet R-13 with Portnoy mouthpices and Vandoren German-cut reeds. I also saw on the pictures that he use the Vandoren optimum ligature. I have myself one question: I know you can use Black master on Bohem mouthpiece but I thought you couldn't use German cut White master on anything else than German style mouthpieces. Are they not just talking about Black Master but I've never heard talked about German cut Black Master but only Black Master but I've heard talked about German-cut White Master and White Master?

My husband and I are going to see/hear Ken perform on December 1 when
he comes to Oregon. He will be in Eugene (which is about 2 hours away) but it will be well worth the drive. We are really looking forward to it! I love all the old Benny Goodman tunes. Ken will be using Benny's original arrangements and it should be totally awesome.

What a great video! I was able to sit front and center of a Ken Peplowski-Benny Goodman Tribute concert by the Grand Rapids (MI) Symphony a few years ago. He is truly amazing as a clarinetist and as an entertainer. He interacts with the audience with a terrific sense of humor. I got to meet him after the concert and found him to be very friendly. My favorite tune is China Boy (guitar and clarinet) from his CD "Last Swing of the Century".

Right now I'm on the "Jazz Cruise", currently passing by Cabo San Lucas.

Ken's one of the "All Stars" on board and I have heard him every day. He is also extremely good on Tenor Sax.

Eat your hearts out.

this past summer i got the opportunity to meet Mr. Peplowski and take a masterclass from him. Nice guy, great player. I got him to autograph my Rose 32 etude book! heheheh! he told us that he keeps in shape by playing lots of etude books in addition to all of the jazz he plays.
as a person, he is friendly and easy to get along with. icing on the cake!
He was in town for the Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival that Davenport, IA holds each July. lots of jazz, great fun!!

Living in Germany but not playing a German clarinet, I've tried a number of different reeds and have had success playing Pflaumer reeds on my buffet clarinet. It seems to work fine for me.

I agree that he is very similar to Benny Goodman in style. Excellent viewing. Thanks.

Here's an album with Ken of No Mo' Chalumeau he did with the UNLV Wind Orchestra in 2001. A live recording from the 67th American Bandmasters Association Convention held in Las Vegas that year.

I've been checking out Utube quite a bit lately and I keep coming back to this video clip. Unfortunately, as of yesterday when I checked ,all of Peplowski's clips have been removed....anyone know what happened?

Regarding GBK's link subject: The underlying misconception that always interests me is that there is some cap on the public's demand for entertainment and that "giving away" freebies will reduce profits for those involved in the conception and production of it. This form of Greed is similar to Sony's copy protection schemes which always seem to fail to profit them.

It's not the competition with commercial videos - but today's industry sees commercials-in-between-movements as an integral part of a movie or video - as if you could be motivated to shopping for earplugs during a Kenny G video on youtube, ridiculous.
