I have an important question about an etude that is on the ARtistic Studies 1 From the French school.
On page 61 Etude no. 16
On measure 20 there is a turn. I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me if that B should be a flat or a natural. I have asked 3 instructors one of them has his doctorate. Upon playing this turn the Bb (which falls within the key signature) seems to sound wrong. They all agree that turns normally would have a natural sign underneath the turn sign. So No one could give me an acutal answer. The Dr. did say that it could have been a misprint. Then adviced me to play whichever note I wanted. Being either a Bb or a Bnatural.
In measure 28 in the last set of sixteen's there seems to be a D, C, Bb, A, Gnatural & F#. Does anyone know if the D, C, & A should be flats? It's coming down from a chromatic, and it just sounds wrong when playing them flat.
No one seems to know the answer, I hope someone out there can help.

Measure 20 - The lowest note of the turn is a Bb.
Measure 28 - The notes are D, C, Bb, A, G natural, F# (as written)

you're preparing for the texas all region auditions?
if there is no errata posted at tmea.org you play them as written or the judges will deduct points at regionals. go to tmea.org and print the errata sheet and performance notes.
the turn is C-D-C-Bb-C, as we have 2 flats in the key signature
measures 28 - same answer, play as written unless tmea.org says otherwise.
you post would seem to indicate we're in the same city, contact me offline if you want further help. i have recordings if you want one.

This one is for Paul, may I please have ur email address? I do want the recordings, but it shows no info about you. I'm from Laredo, TX. Not very close but still in the same state.

BTW - I agree, that if it is for an audition you should play what is written, unless a correction sheet has been given to you.
Although the Rose 32 have numerous errors (David Hite fixed most of them in his edition and Melvin Warner in his edition did an even better job) the prudent thing to do in finding the answer is to consult the original source - the Ferling 48 for oboe (or saxophone)
In this particular exercise, which is shorter but more ornamented in the original form for oboe, the ornamentation of similar turns is within the key signature unless otherwise notated. When Ferling wanted a turn with an altered note, he either completely wrote out the turn or used the appropriate #, b or natural sign...GBK
