An intermediate-level wood instrument, rather similar to a Noblet, single-register-vent design so it's likely to play stuffy and sharp in pitch on the low-clarion ("long") B and C. Nicely made and finished, but not cheap for its playing qualities. I'd strongly advise you to try before you buy.

Don't buy single regiser vent instruments when you have some playing experience : To much limitations on such instruments to call them instruments.

I use the cheap single register leblanc and bundy of mine just for bass line and harmonic playing in a folk group . Technical complex music is not possible on such an instrument ( jumps , stuffy a-f clarion region etc )

Best Regards

When buying a single register instrument , try jupiter ( very good ) or bundy.
And save money for a real BC

So you don't suggest this instrument? Ah!
It's a problem for me becouse I don't have now 5.000 euros to buy a prestige model, instead this model cost "just" 2700 euros...
I don't think that non discending instrument for playing jazz is a problem, I'm waiting other replies/comments.
thanks

Thanks, Don! I stuck that reply in the wrong thread (DOH!). I wrote:

I believe the Leblanc 160 is the "Esprit"? If so, it's a Noblet with a Leblanc logo on it. Also a single-register-vent design. Again, not a bad instrument, but you must try it first.

you can find used Eb bass clarinets between 2500 and 3000 euro ( buffet 1193 ) completely repaired and tuned, when looking around for a while.

I believe the 1193 is Buffet's low-C model --- the low-Eb version is model 1183.

I'd be surprised if you could find a good, ready-to-go low-C 1193 for 3000 euros.

I haven't played one, but I'd love to try one of Tod Ridenour's Bass Clarinets. I've heard good things about them and they are definitely cheaper than most bass clarinets. As I say this is without having played one, but I'd check it out.

Please search for some posts I put up a few years back about my personal experience with the Ridenour low-C bass. Hint: I owned it for one month, then sold it.

Consider the Amati low-C bass too.
