I would recommend something much more closed than a B45. Maybe an M13 or a 5RV?

I played on a 5RV after i wore out my Debut in the 8th grade. My teacher recommended it at the time, and it was an awesome piece.

I like my 11.6 better than a glass mp refaced to 5RVL, dont care for the B45, but for all-around [and Jazz] playing, prefer a slightly wider tip with medium length lay. Look at the dealer-provided mp comparison charts. VD's M series are frequently praised here on the BB, have no experience tho, play more on the "big" cls, bass and alto [Pomaricos]. Don

Best recommendation is a VD 5RV or 5RV Lyre. She should also start out with VD blue-box 3.5 reeds. The B45 and 11.6 are probably too open for concert band or classical work. She will need a darker sound than that.

Bill, 'Blue-box' 3.5 is too hard for me... for a young player 2.5 is more likely.

I would bypass Vandoren & purchase a Hite Premier plastic mpc. A very nice, easy to play mpc. If you really prefer it to say Vandoren, try an M13. Very good things have been said about the M30 here as well.
BTW, the best thing you can do is to order 3 different mpc's from WW&BW and have your daughter tell you which one she likes the best. Base your choices on what you learn here. Depending on where you live or course, you could just take her to a music store that has a good selection & let her find her own. Again, make your choices on which ones to demo on what you learn here.
