I am looking at getting my PHD in Education or Performance. I wanted to find out what schools you all feel are the top Doctorate programs in the US. Preferebly East Coast to mid-atlintic areas.
I have a bachelors in Education
Masters in Performance
I wanted to get the doctorate in clarinet performance BUT there are not too many schools that are looking for a full-time clarinet teacher. I am willing to teach methods, clarinet, and conduct bands and I have heard that getting a PHD in education would open up alot more avenues.
Your input would be great.

I am considering the opposite of what you have done. I am thinking of getting a Bachelors in performance and a Masters in Education.
I am interested to see what it was like to get a masters degree in performance without a the BM.
This topic may be better in another thread, or through email. Whatever is easiest.

I don't know exactly how true this is, since I only heard it from two people - my piano teacher and oboe teacher. He's a DMA student at USC and she got her Master's at CalArts, and both of them told me that it's much easier to get a Bachelor's in education and a Master's in performance rather than the other way around - provided that the Education degree is a BM and not a BA and that you do receive the same private lessons from a professor as the performance students. But again, I don't know if this would be true all the time or at all, it's only what I've heard.
