Good Morning,
I’m having a bit of trouble making out the identification marks on my crystal (glass) mouthpiece. If I remember correctly she was purchased in 1965 for at that time was a song and a dance. The etching appears to be possibly and not sure of this “A Buesi” And this I’m not sure of, any possible spelling corrections are possible. It was etched in cursive on the face and is difficult to read. If anyone can offer assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at it again it maybe old O'Brien? Did O'Brien etch their mfg. marking on the mouthpiece face? Does anyone have a edu. guess?

I have several O'B's dating back into the 30's, and my quick answer is Yes, Probably. Selmer sold/?sells? their "Clarion" [have one also] whose lay-markings were/are? the same as O'B's. I'm sure there were others. As it appears now [to me], with the glass mp demand being minimal [are expensive], there are only a very few makers [like Pomarico, my fav.] and some "stencilled" makes are available. Early AM thots. The O'Brien OCB (off center bore) facings went from 1 to 5+.
For about 30 years the company was located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The year of manufacture is usually etched on the mouthpiece (ex: 78, 85, etc...) along with the facing number.
The actual O'Brien facing descriptions on their printed inserts were:
1 - very short
2 - medium short
OB+ - "very popular"
2+ - more open
3, 3+, 4, 4+, 5, 5+ - progressively more open
The most "open" O'Briens (the 5 and the 5+) had a tip opening in the range of 1.30mm (.051").

Best edu. guess it must be an O'Brien. The etching is very hard to discern. As GBK submitted there it is, the date and facing of mfg. 3+ n#- 65.
