Hey guys, just wondering what facing length and Tip opening have an effect on sound, response, ease of blowing, reed strength, articulation etc...
I know the bare basics, more open = harder reed usually, longer facing = softer reed..usually
but i really want to know more! =D

Sounds backwards.
The less open tip openings take a harder reed to get the "same" effect as a more open mouthpeice with a softer reed. The length of the lay can be short or long. The difference is subtley like the above in that the longer lay makes up (a little) for a smaller opening. However, the lay length has more to do with how much mouthpiece that you take into the mouth.
All said, the response and sound are what YOU determine when you play it with a given reed. You can research dimensions until you're blue in the face, get the mouthpiece and it won't even play. You just have to start trying them out and when you find one that plays great, then you may START to make SOME assumptions about dimensions.

Not retarded at all; merely unclear. A longer facing does make a reed softer (or seem so, which is all that counts). Given a fixed nature of reed the facing will work in just the way you described, but then you counter it by selecting the opposite trait in your reed.
