The one and only time I was able to attend the annual ClarinetFest dates way back to 1980 in Denver, as I was with the U. of Illinois clarinet choir performing there with Howard Klug and Harvey Hermann. Some great memories, Stockhausen was there, and we all watched in stunned amazement when Suzanne Stephens performed (played and danced simultaneously, in costume) his "Harlequin". We all concluded we'd never attempt that ourselves!
The reason I bring this up is that I recall to this day an incredible performance of Weber's Grand Duo Concertante by a well known clarinetist.......but I just can't recall who it was. The performance was very aggressive, yet clean, and so exciting. Does anyone else recall this.....26 years later? Are there any program listings posted online from all the fests?

Dave - I'd suggest a search in ICA's archives, since "The Clarinet" serves a number of important clarinet purposes, one of which is historical. I did look [briefly] in the "back issues" listings for 1980-1, but didn't find the Conc. mentioned. Some of our elders also should be able to recall, [its only 26 years on back !]. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

In the Fall 1980 issue of The Clarinet there is a summary of the 1980 International Clarinet Congress (Clarinetfest) which was held at the University of Denver, Aug 11 - Aug 15.
The Weber Grand Duo Concertante was performed twice during the event.
On Monday afternoon, August 11 it was played by Marcel Ancion and on Tuesday evening, August 12 by David Shifrin...GBK

Thanks. Now I know it was definitely David Shifrin playing in that great performance.
