Rooting through my clarinet shoebox today I discovered this mouthpiece. Has "Robert Marcellus" engraved on its body. Was he a Chicago player? Feels nice and heavy. Does anybody know anything about the history and/or parameters of these MP's; opening, length of the lay, chamber, baffle, etc.? Were they all the same? Looks like somebody (manufacturer?) did a little fine hand work inside the beak on the baffle. Beautiful symmetrical rails, tip, table etc. Reed suggestions? It seems to like an Olivieri #2, V.D. #3.
It has a nice little "bronze" plaque imbedded into the top of the body near the tenon; "Woodwind". I must have tried it in some clarinet store, liked it and bought it, then put it away in my shoe box. Heh!

ebay value around 65-120 last i saw on an auction. Didn't know that they were replicas of Kaspar ciceros. Pardon stepping on some toes there.

Thanks for that link, Gregory. Since I submitted my original query I have found out that Rob't Marcellus was the first chair in the Cleveland Symphony (not Chicago as I had erroneously guessed).
Further inspection revealed "M 13" on the body, = 1.13; quite a wide opening, acc. to your article.

After the initial project was completed between Marcellus and Aiello, they discussed the possibility of making a slightly closer facing, especially for those playing double lip. They came up with the 1.08 tip at Marcellus' suggestion, hence the 08 designation.
By the way, the 1.13 tip was the actual measurement of his own mouthpiece but as he said, it did not feel as open as most 13's. His ideal was to find a Kaspar that, if stamped 13 felt more as an 11, and if an 11, felt more like a 13. (There were relatively few that were stamped 12 but that tip opening didn't seem to work as well for some reason with the blank that Kaspar finished off from it's relatively raw form.)

I don't know how EBay got into this thread. Why does a monetary value have to be placed on everything?
I have no intention of selling this mouthpiece. I started the thread in order to learn something and share my enthusiasm - that's it.
