Yet - I like the concept. Not for being different but for being tiny and comparably maintenance-free. Just like some flutists like the Yamaha Fife (YRF-21) for being "vacation friendly".

It is not such a crazy idea. The conservatoire at Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris starts young musicians with such chalumeau-type instruments rather than the recorder, enabling them to move up to the clarinet with correct ideas about embouchure, etc.
