Just to start you out -

Louis DeSantis was the subject of an excellent in-depth cover story/article written by my friend Russell Harlow (Utah Symphony).

Find a copy of The Clarinet magazine from December 2003.

DeSantis wrote an interesting method book for clarinet. With a little help from myself (who owned a rare copy) Russell was also able to convince the DeSantis family to let him republish the original 1935 method book "New Studies for Clarinet".

DeSantis' tone and playing was admired by many, including Robert Marcellus.

I have a 2 DeSantis recordings: The famous Deems Taylor "Through the Looking Glass Suite" (CBS Orchestra - 1938) , and Rachmaninoff Sym #2 (Cleveland Orchestra - 1927), and can clearly see why his playing was so revered...GBK

Manfredo Cavallini of a ?Rome suburb, refaced several Bb mps for me, and, in asking me for a well played reed for his guidance in choosing what "symmetry of lay" would be best for me, I concluded that he was/is a skillful clarinetist. I hope he may respond with more IT and other southern European names for us. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

How about three great Italian clarinettists who played in the Montreal Symphony Orchestra?

Guisseppi Moretti
Rafaele Masella
Emilio Iacurto

Thanks for the information.
Iacurto: when he was born and when it is dead?
Has he played with the MSO in which years?
