Does anyone know of somewhere one could obtain a recording of Robert Mcginnis. Really appreciate.

For starters, get Disney's movie "Fantasia." That's him sitting principal clarinet, the one playing the little jazzy piece after the intermission (though since the soundtrack is made up of so many studio takes, I don't think it's been known for sure if that's him on the soundtrack).

McGinnis put out a record of relatively easy contest pieces as a guide for students. It was an LP on Award Artist Series, AAS 702. It's long out of print, but I have a copy.

He was principal in Philadelphia during most of the Stokowski era, so you can hear him on the reissues. He was also principal in the New York Philharmonic during the 1950s and then taught at Indiana University. I haven't seen a discography, but someone may have put one together, perhaps as a Master's Degree thesis.

As Ken Shaw previously cited, I also have the same LP recording titled "Robert McGinnis Plays the Clarinet" (Award Artist Series AAS 702) where he plays a number of student contest pieces.

The Bergson "Scene and Air" is contained on that album along with works by Avon, Pierne, Hosmer, Le Thiere, Bassi, and others. Also included is the dreadful "Waltz Fantasy" (Mozart) which somehow continues, year after year, to remain in the NYSSMA catalog...GBK
