selmer signature vs. selmer saint louis

Is there any major difference between the selmer signature clarinet and the selmer saint louis? I know the signature has that raised tone hole and the price is different. They both play the same to me. Are they just as good as each other? Would it be worth it to spend the extra money to get a signature?

I compared the Signature and St. Louis models carefully (along with others) at the WWandBW last fall. I, and most others, note the Signature to play with some increased resistance that for most players leads to a darker, covered, woody tone. Describing tone in adjectives is always frought with interpretation, but I think most know about the Signature's (and the Recital's) tone quality. I found the St. Louis to be more free blowing, with a brighter, brassy tone quality that I didn't care for. So much of course will depend on your set-up. I ended up with the Signature, and am very happy with my choice.

You really have to find what seems to work best for you, and ignore hype, and price if your able to. So many great quality instruments out there, and ones that are less expensive than these. Also, look for previous discussion threads on this board.

I agree with DaveF about the Selmer models that have their "traditional" bore, such as the St. Louis. For me, they're great for jazz, but, at least compared with my Buffets, have a blaring quality that I don't care for in classical orchestral or chamber music. YMMV.
