Hi! I'd just like to share with everybody these fantastic videos that you can download of Michael Collins playing the Adagio from the Mozart Concerto, Bernstein Sonata, and Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie.
I don't know how many people have already seen these videos but they're great! Tell me what you think!

I ought to get myself a copy of 'Premiere Rhapsody' - I'm glad you've posted this link as I've read loads of comments about the piece but have never heard it played. When the video downloads I'll have a good listen.
And I do like Michael Collins' playing anyway, so this is an added bonus.
Cheers Omar!

The end of the Rhapsody is quite something, amazing technique...

Fan-bloody-tastic!
I won't spoil it by looking at the other Peter Eaton player's (mentioned earlier) video as I know it won't be anywhere near as good as this.
Thanks again, both to Omar and indeed to Michael Collins.

Thank you very much!
Collins' performance is sublime, but where can I see more of Mozart Adagios played by other clarinetists?
I'll be most grateful if anyone can put up the link. (Even youtube)

BTW...
Why did he make up the last theme part , right after cadenza?
Never heard such a 'variation' ...

Haven't watched the video(s) yet but highly recommend Michael Collins' transcription of the Beethoven violin concerto in D with the Russian National Orchestra circa 2000.
The B-side is yet another K 622 but the Beethoven is beautiful beyond belief.'
The recording is Deutsche Gramaphon.

Lucy Lee Jang asks:
"Why did he make up the last theme part , right after cadenza?"
I think in Mozart's day it was accepted--indeed, encouraged--for soloists to embellish the original theme upon reprise. Michael Collins does this with great restraint; I favor even more adventurous improvisation!

I would say Collins is easily the top soloist in the UK now...however, this could be argued a good deal. He has loads of technique and an incredible tonal vocabulary...his Brahms Sonatas with Pletnev are very good and quite volatile in some places....!!!

Thank you, Larry, for your explanation.
Didn't know that, and now I'll be thrilled to (ever) find some clarinettists try some variations on such a famous piece as Adagio in K.622.
