I'm trying some different barrels on my Leblanc Bb clarinet.

What are some of the advantages of the rosewood barrel with

a Pyne mouthpiece?

 mark is right...rosewood is stunning....

if I'm not mistaken though, Kalmen opperman makes special rosewood barrells and matches them to his specially faced mp...stoltzman uses one....leblanc makes a rosewood clarinet, and when moales endorsed it he said it sounded different...rossi makes horns out of several woods....this opens a whole barrel of controversy about materials and tone, though most folks agree a cardboard clarinet doesn't make it...

I think the barrel bore taper is more important than the materials...

Both of the posters above may be correct in saying that the material makes no significant difference, but would it ever look absolutely gorgeous!!

Every time I see the picture of the Rossi in all rosewood in the WW/BW catalog, I have a huge smile on my face. Wow! My wife thinks I'm looking at a magazine centerfold picture. I sure am, but not THAT kind of picture. This is a picture that only a clarinetist can understand. Ditto for seeing a brand new fire engine red Ferrari sports car for an auto mechanic, or the Golden Gate Bridge for a civil engineer.

In the case of barrels I would be very hesitant to say that the material makes no difference, but in any case the rosewood and cocobolo barrels are gorgeous.
