Two friends and myself need to put together an ensemble piece for three clairnets. The thing is, the music we have to choose from is always for four clarinets. Can anyone recommend some good music for a clarinet trio?

The best clarinet trio music I've heard is from the Trio De Clarinettes from France. They only have one CD which is a live concert and it is a combination of classical, jazz, avantgarde and improvisation. Their music is in my opinion some of the best and most interesting clarinet music there is. Even if you would not be interested in playing it, and in that case you'd have to contact the composers to get the sheet music, I would recommend listening to it!

Rubank publishes 2 books of clarinet trios. (Book 1 - Easy, Book 2 - Medium)
The title is "Chamber Music for Three Clarinets" (edited by Voxman)
Rubank #L-273 and L-274 ...GBK

But wouldn't any same pitch trios work if the range was suitable and you liked them? eg ob trios, fl trios, recorder trios etc.
Must be a big selection out there. ......RT

I am currently playing in a clarinet trio and there truly is a huge selection of trio music available. You can start with http://www.windmusicplus.com, as they show samples of the music offered. Other great sites are J.W. Pepper, Dorn Publications, and Luyben Music (Googling will bring up their websites).
Good luck and have fun!

Try the Beethoven Op. 87. It's a terrific piece -- and not difficult.
