Does anyone know of a good place for summer music study in the state of California? I know of all the biggies like the Music Academy of the West and all those. Does anyone know of any other festivals, orchestras, and chamber music study opportunities? Thanks!

There is a good camp down at UCLA for high school students, I went there last year, and it is very good. It is part of the summer sessions programs at UCLA, and includes some of the faculty from the music department, including Professor Gary Grey, clarinet; Jens Lindemann, trumpet; and Dr. Thomas Lee, band director to name a few. Last year was the first year, and they only had a band and a small chamber music class separate from the band. This year, however, they are expanding it to include an orchestra as well. The week I was there was very inspirational, and I highly recommend this camp. You can get the details through the UCLA website. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, just email me.
Another camp that I have heard good things about is the camp at the University of Pacific in Stockton. I talked to someone who lives there and studies with the clarinet professor, he said she is a good teacher. He also said the camp was good. The only thing I can say about this camp is that it is geared toward a younger musician.
Hope I helped.

Chase down "Music for the love of it." Through the Amateur Chamber Music Players. It is a comprehensive catalogue of music camps. Many many entries for CA
