Hi everyone.
Let me reveal myself as a first-class idiot! I bought a used Selmer CL201 for my daughter from an Ebay seller. What I received is questionable: the barrel shows the maker's mark and model, but that's the only mark on the entire instrument. (And the bell is plastic, what's more.) I guess it's pretty evident that there's been an unholy marriage here, but what do you make of the complete absence of serial number? When questioned, the seller told me: "It is newer - there are no serial on some of the new 301's either and i have a few 200 here where they are worn to the point of not being able to be seen".
I'd really appreciate some advice. (Incidentally, between accepting my payment and shipping the item, this seller left Ebay, which did set some alarm bells ringing, but too late!)

The top joints on Selmer USA clarinets should carry a serial number (which should be well into 7 figures), but not the bottom joint if my memory serves me.
Serial numbers on new or used clarinets don't have the habit of getting 'worn out' - even on old wooden clarinets where the serial numbers are hard to see can be deciphered, but if they've been tampered with by scratching or filing out leads to suspicion.
Can you post some detailed photos on here for us to have a look at to see if it's a Selmer CL201.
Is there any way you can contact the seller if this turns out to be something else?
