Coudet bass clarinet

Help! Someone, please, help me.

I'm a sax player who has, over the lst few years, been pulled into more and more clarinet gigs. I'm happy to say that I'm an ok player now, but I sucked for a long time.... sorry guys.

It's a wooden Coudet bass clarinet, I've never heard of the brand, neither has my boss (I work at a repair shop). It plays well and has a great tone. The intonation isn't great, but overall, I think it's an ok horn.

Does anyone know anything about the history of this brand? I've found almost nothing on it- any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Stu - Glad you have joined our "elite" group, many, if not most, of us play sax also, so you're in good company. Coudet is not listed as a maker in Rendall's or Rice's book. Possibly Dave S [a bass cl expert] may know of it, perhaps as a trade [stencil] name used "e pluribus unum" [one among many] by Malerne of France. Luck, Don
