I learnt this when I was in a choir years ago. It only just occurred to me to try it on clarinet:
Take a scale. Call the tonic '1' and count the notes upwards, so for example 'C' is 1, 'D' is 2 etc. for C major. Then play the following:
1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 7 6 5 4 3 2
1 2 1 3 1 4 1 5 1 6 1 7 1 8
7 8 6 8 5 8 4 8 3 8 2 8 1
8 5 3 1 -
8 -
1
It's absolutely mind expanding with a decent number of sharps or flats, or across the break.
