I have an honors band clinic tomorrow and my Low F 123-123R is playing right but when i play middle C R 123-123R it makes an iffy noise and is very hard to play and same thing with the B. I'm thinking the spring needs to be adjusted or maybe a little key oil Any help?

A probable cause: a weak spring or leaking pad on the Ab/Eb key.

I suspect a leak as well. It could be that the F/C pad has shifted and/or adjustment is out so that when playing the low E or F there is enough air passing that it doesn't present a problem, but with the register key on it disrupts the partials enough that creates the problem.

Classic - the big trial is tomorrow.
I wonder how many pads will fall out on the stage during the day?
NYSSMA examiners now show up with a handful of Valentino pads and a screwdriver at the ready...

Take the section and close off the end with your hand. Close all the keys and blow into the section. If it leaks you will be able to feel the leak. try pressing down harder on each key to stop the leak. this will help you to find which one is leaking. If it is a closed key, a little more tension on the spring will help. Be careful not to bend it too much.

A likely culprit is the bridge key - double check the alignment and make sure it hasn't gotten bent - but this is almost certainly a leak somewhere.

I sometimes have trouble playing the long C and B if my register tube has an obstruction (usually moisture). Try blowing into the register tube to clear mosture. If you are mechanically inclined you can take the register key off and clean crud from the tube with the paper stick from a Q-tip.

thanks all. i took my other clarinet to the clinic today until i could figure out what was wrong. it infact is a leak on the Eb/Ab Key. I'm getting it fixed first thing tomorrow morning.
