When I play alone I hear a noise coming from my throat...and someone told me it seemed as though I toungued (sp?) with my throat. So how can I fix this?

And yes, I'm new. Hello everyone ^^

Born to event.

It sounds like you're breathing out with every note you tongue (my sax teacher called it 'Hoo-ing'). When you tongue, it's only your tongue that should move and the air pressure should be already primed - your lungs under diaphragm pressure like a compressor and your tongus acting like a valve releasing the pressurised air - like when you hold your thumb over the end of a garden hose that's on to stop the flow, but releasing your thumb lets the water flow with no delay as the flow is stopped by your thumb.

Keep your tongue on the reed while breathing out, but don't make a sound - let the air pressure build up (without puffing out your cheeks). Now release your tongue to make it sound, still keeping the breath pressure up, and replace your tongue on the reed again to stop the sound, but still keep the air pressure up. Then keep repeating this. Use a mirror to be sure you're keping your chops still - it's only your tongue that's moving.

One of my teachers used the illustration of yawning while you play in order to keep the back of your throat open.

Then keep your fingers curled not sticking up in the air waving at the sky, remember what key signature you're in, figure out the timing of your syncopated notes, separate the notes with the tip of your tongue, don't tongue those slurs, and oh - don't slouch........Hey, those fingers, keep them curled, and RELAX YOUR THROAT!
