Recently I heard a recording of Bonades teacher, Henri Lefevre. He had the most beautiful and round sound on earth. No one sounds like him today, and i have listened t oa hell of a lot of recordings. It was a recording of the Meister: Erwinn Fantasie. The recording is from 1913. I was just wondering if anyone had ever heard it and your comments.

What was his setup?

Only joking.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

I know the recording well and have listened to it numerous times. It is of course limited by the recording capabilities of 1913. The playing is fine, but it is a shame that the technology was not yet available to edit out the two small clarinet errors at 1'05" and 1'35"

Lefebvre was one of many students taught by Cyrille Rose. Among the others, of course, were Henri and Alexandre Selmer, Paul Jeanjean, and Louis Cahuzac.

If you have not heard (another of Rose's students) Louis Cahuzac, one of the great soloists playing in the early part of the 20th century, listen to the performance of him playing his own (unedited) version of Variations Sur Un Air Du Pays D'oc.

BTW - On that same site do not miss listening to one of the few recordings of the great Louis DeSantis, a clarinetist that few ever mention ...GBK
