endurance

hi..currently im using pomarico crystal mouthpiece the med..ruby version..i realli happy with it as the tone produced is really nice..but i met an obstacle..i realize this mouthpiece need extra air support n higher endurance level..may i know how to increase the endurance level in my playing so that i can last much longer when playing my clarinet..thank you

That's easy - if you have access to a baritone sax. Even after playing tenor sax for a while you will probably find that you have much greater endurance.

I wouldn't play baritone sax, but I've been told that tenor sax doesn't negatively affect the clarinet embouchure. Actually, trumpet is a good secondary instrument for clarinetists to strengthen the lips and learn to pull their teeth apart (vertically) while keeping the lips together.

As far as endurance, do breathing exercises, make sure you don't bite (use a flexible embouchure), and make sure to take short breaks in long practice sessions. For physical comfort, there are mouthpiece patches, pads of all sorts which can be placed between lips and teeth, and there are neckstraps if instrument support becomes an issue.

I would humbly suggest that a standard amount of endurance is part and parcel with the whole clarinet playing package. Though the sound you achieve on a "tough" set up may appear ideal to you, in the long run it will not serve you to achieve your ultimate musical goals.

IF THAT'S THE PROBLEM !!!

If long tones and several weeks of practice don't bring your endurance back to former levels, try the 'ol weaker reed trick. If that's not successful than I would recommend a less open mouthpiece.
