Hello everyone and happy holidays,
I am looking for a Double Yamaha Clarinet Case (briefcase style). Has anyone ever seen any of these?
Does any know of any good cases that are compact...?

I've got a wooden Custom double case for my Series 9 set, but chopped a bit from the polystyrene tray to fit the long bottom joints.
It's an excellent case and was good value for money as it was on special offer (John Myatt).
I've only heard about the new Yamaha double case that's very compact, but haven't seen any to say how good they are, but I imagine they should be as Yamaha cases are generally pretty good if not excellent.

I have been using a Yamaha soft-side double case for two years now and like it. It's extra light--great for long walks (airports, to gigs, etc)--and has ample room to carry all of your necessary equipement and music. And the bells are stored separated from the lower joints. Lighter and more compact that the "lightweight" Bams that my colleges are using and plenty of styro foam protection for my clarinets. One thing that I added, however, was a velcro stape lid support to keep it from flopping completely open during assembly. If your reasonably careful to avoid dropping, tossing and other case "traumas", this might be what you are looking for. Mine is about four years old.
(I think that our good NYC pro clarinetist friend JJM uses the same case)

The Bam double case does require the extra care in opening and getting out your instrument that William mentioned. They are very well formed for the instruments, however. I just bought a Durbin case from Ben Redwine that I really like. It's got lots of room for music and everything I need--extra mouthpieces and barrels. It also fits the instrument well like the Yamaha and Bam cases mentioned above.
Don't know a dealer for the Yamaha case unless you check out woodwind and brasswind.

It may be worth seeing if you can get hold of the Buffet Tosca case...which has to be the most compact double case with room for two barrels I have seen.
I don't use mine, as I can't fit anything else in it...but if you want a high quality case (it's leather and beautifully made) that's as small as can be, have a look for it.
(be aware...bell is stored attached to lower joint in this case)
As for the BAM cases, I have just bought a new one and pleased with the improvements that have been made since I purchased my last. I second the idea of adding velcro, I saw this done recently to prevent accidental opening...and feel it's a great idea that I'll be doing myself when I get round to it!
