 A/Bb Clarinet Case
Author: Connor
Date:   2005-12-12 03:10

I resently bought a Yamaha CS clarinet, and i curently own a Buffet A clarinet. The problem is the Yamaha upper joint is longer that a Buffet upper joint, so i need to find a double case that will accomidate both horns. Is there a case on the market that will allow me to customize the compartment space?

You can take a computer case and some foam used for camera equipment and make your own. Or take a look at the BAM Trekking cases. There may be enough room and give to take both horns.

One suggestion would be to use a Yamaha double case, and put a bit of foam in the A clarinet slot so your Buffet's UJ won't slide around.

Sorry I have no info on cases which are customizeable.

Wiseman customizes cases for just about any need you could have, they are rather expensive though. They are beautifully constructed and offer some of the best protection you can get for an instrument.

I'm pretty sure my double case is made by Winter.

My Pro-Tec double case has styrofoam underlying the velvet that allows for form-fitting of the joints. Lay the pieces into their slots, close the case, and overnight the slots will conform to the size and shape of the joints.

I have 3 [double +] cases, one with Bb " troughs" [a better word??], where my A is secured by plastic [polyurethane?] foam , and 2 brief-computer? cases, bot for songs [< $10] ! at estate-garage sales , and use foam "fillers". One of the latter is home for my "unusuals", Stubbins, Mazzeo, and McIntyre. Perhaps one of our kids will have some interest in them !! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I made my own case for my alto clarinet, which requires a little woodworking know how, some wood, and a trip to a fabric store. It's framed with maple, and covered with walnut plywood. It really was not very difficult, its very attractive (Walnut exterior, red velvet over dense foam interior, brass harware), and fitted precisely to the instrument. I think I spent about $70 on materials, and a few days putting it together, and it was a lot of fun.
