 Free USAF Clarinet Performance Downloads

USAF Sgt. Bryan Guidry, an acquaintance of mine (mainly over the Internet, although I have met him in person) who played clarinet in the USAF Band in Washington, DC until recently when he went into flight training, has posted several of his performances on his website in WMA format. http://www.texzan.com/band.htm I asked him if I could post a link here and he didn't seem to mind nor seem to be concerned about bandwidth. Out of modesty, he did comment:

"The tracks are all recorded live so there are definitely mistakes with two exceptions:

"The second set down are from a recent CD recorded last year and were actually edited so those two sound pretty good. The Brahms came out pretty nice, too, except for one stupid note...I wish I could have that one back! The Poulenc was put together with three days notice, which is why I didn't put the first mvt on the site...it's pretty nasty. The pianist did a pretty amazing job, especially considering the short notice she received. Unfortunately the 2nd mvt went really well but the recording was messed up for some bizarre reason and I never got to hear it.

"Of interest to you as a bass clarinetist, I'm playing bass on all of the clarinet choir stuff. Not the quartet ones, though. I don't remember which part I'm playing on the Mozart quintet, but I wasn't the soloist (I think I was bass on that, too, but it's been a while)."

I have not yet listened to them, but will as soon as I download them onto my iPod.

And for those who aren't aware, CDs by the U.S. military bands are free to schools and libraries, but not the general public. Often the contents of the CDs are available for free downloading from the bands' websites.

And if you like puzzles, try to determine which of Sgt. Guidry's other interests I share with him. It is one of those posted on his site.

As for your shared hobby, I'm gonna guess... playing the clarinet?

On back, Ken Kolb, fine clist, retired from Langley, and an occassional poster here, was "instrumental" in helping our band to borrow a Calliet arrangement of Der RosenKavalier Waltzes [out of print] which we concertized [fairly well, its TOUGH!]. He also gave me several CD's in which he played, [GREAT], so TKS again, Ken. He might also wish to help others, so, perhaps ask him. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
