 new Buffet R13 problems
Author: jangjiman

I bought a new buffet R13 but I think this might be a problem. You know how there are silver rings on the joints? Well the silver ring on the top part of my bell just spins freely. Anybody know if this is a problem? And is so what can I do about it?

Take it to your local repair shop, they should be able to fix that in about five minutes, and for real cheap, I have had that done for free with a past clarinet of mine. That can be a problem if you don't get it fixed though.

there is also tiny little chips in the joints. Is this normal for a new buffet? Also shouldn't it have come with some kinf of warranty sheet?

I think so - these are all things you shoulda asked and looked at BEFORE you bought it.

Hopefully you bought from an authorized dealer. The instrument should carry a 1 year warranty. It sounds like you need to talk to the dealer.

well I bought it from this guy who I have been buying my instruments from for years. He's very dependable and makes sure everything is perfect. His store is in California (where I used to live) and he shipped it to me in Arizona(where I live now). Maybe the ring got loose due to humidity changes. It also says on their website that you shouldn't play your new clarinet for more than 30 minutes a day for a month. Is this really necessary?

Arizona... hmmmmm....

I've heard of the problem before - and it is just a relative humidity thing, as far as I'm aware.

I live in the UK, and had the opposite problem - one VERY stiff joint after about a year. And I had a friend who left his instrument assembled for about a month (practicing morning noon and night for exams), and who had to take it to the shop to get it taken apart...

It is definitely a humidity problem. But, if you'll take it in to the repair shop they'll fix it for you (as mentioned above). As to the tiny chips, show them to the repair guy and notify your seller immediately that you need to warranty card to mail in so you can get your clarinet in to the data bank for R-13s should something major come up.
