Munich Symphony Orchestra Performed in Joplin MO!!!
Author: ClariBone

WOW, I just got back from a performance put on by the Munich Symphony Orchestra and it was AMAZING!!! Whats more it was in my hometown of JOPLIN!!! I hadn't seen a professional orchestra live until today, and...WOW!!! The concert featured piano soloist Phillipe Entremont (Conductor and Pianist). The concert was superb (they played Strauss's Sextet from Capriccio, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58, and my personal favorite Schubert's Symphony No. 9 in C Major D. 944 "The Great"). My only complaint is the names of the clarinet players were not given in the program (everone BUT the clarinetists!!!). Anyone know their names??

Thanks
Clayton

*Edited to include soloist*

I could not find anything on the "Munich Symphony Orchestra" (or Symphonie Orchester Munchen auf Deutsch) but I was able to find the Bavarian Symphony (Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks) and the clarinetists are:

Stefan Schilling*
Joachim Olszewski
Werner Mittelbach
Bettina Faiss
Christopher Corbett

The clarinetists were two older men, no names were mentioned but they were AMAZING!!!

". . . .10 to 19.11.2005 USA Concert tour

the Munich Symphony gives 29 concerts in cities (sic) such as New York, Iowa, Columbia, Manhatten, Atlanta, Palm Beach, and many others - more than 8000 km traveling within the country. Musical direction is by Philippe Entremont, who will also perform the solo part in the Piano Concerto by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Three different concert programs are to be heard in exchange, from among those below:

Carl Maria v.Weber - Overture to Oberon
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Piano Concerto KV 467
Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Concerto no.4 op. 58, Symphony no. 7 in A Major op. 92
Franz Schubert - Symphony no. 9 in C Major D 944
Richard Strauss - Sextet from Capriccio op. 85 in a version for strings
Johannes Brahms - Symphony no. 2 in D Major op.73..."

. . . just in case anyone wasn't sure. ;)

Hello,

Their first concert on tour was in Annapolis. I heard the concert. It was good, not great. Entremont's performance of the Mozart Concerto #21 was quite impressive. On my program (if memory serves correctly) the clarinetist's names were inadvertently included in the oboe section. Paul Maier was indeed first, but I don't know who was playing second. I went backstage and talked to the principal flautist--he was quite amazing and dominated the wind section's sound.

The oboe player for the Joplin performance could always be heard and was featured often. I learned a lot by just watching and listening to both the clarinets and the trombones. Definietly an experience to remember!!
