I have known, and worked closely with Skitch for the past 25 years. I have been his principal clarinetist and friend, and I can't believe he's gone.
It is a great loss to us here in NYC, where Skitch spent so much of his musical life. and a loss to the world of live music.
Skitch conducted and played piano all over the globe. He took us to Japan, all over the US, and our regular venue at Carnegie Hall in NYC.
We have a concert scheduled for November 11th, and it will go on in his memory, but I can tell you it is going to be one very difficult concert to play without him.
Many conductors are not missed after their passing, but Skitch will be missed by all of us at HIS New York Pops. He made music and work for many of us here in NYC, and we will be forever grateful to him.
May he rest in peace, knowing he helped keep music alive for all of us.

Interestingly, just three weeks ago, our Retro Swing Band did a benefit concert for the University of Wisconsin Music Library to which, a few years ago, Skitch Henderson donated many of his old Tonight Show Band arrangements and original tunes. Our repretoire for this event was choosen exclusively from many of these wonderful charts and they were enjoyed by all who were in attendence. We also use some of Skitch's music for the free concerts we play weekly at area nursing and retirement homes. So, for those of you who loved the musical genious of Skitch Hendersen, be assured that some of it is still swing'n and being enjoyed (as it should) here in Madison, Wisconsin.
