 1975 Anniversary Special?
Author: Chalumeau Joe

I would appreciate some information on a Buffet clarinet I bought new in 1975, s/n 160408, Made in France. The case says it's their 150th Anniversary model.

There is no model number marking anywhere on the clarinet. When I took it to my local shop for repair, the technician told me that thought it was probably equivalent to an R-13, but didn't know what the proper designator for it was.

Can anyone provide me with some more insight as to what model I actually have? It's a beautiful instrument that plays well; however, did the Buffet company truly do anything "special" in honor of its 150 Anniversay?

Thanks,
CJ

Shortly after submitting this posting, I did some more research and found similar quesitons posted on this very BB.

My apologies for not having seen this before, as it would have answered my question.

As it turns out, I have the Anniversary Case, but likely not the actual Anniversary model (just another 1975 Buffet clarinet that was put in the case.) (There are no markings on the instrument itself that clearly states its an Anniversary model.)

A portion of the production run of 1975 Buffet clarinets were marked Modele du 150th Anniversaire just below the Buffet logo on the uper joint.

I have one of the 1975 R13 Anniversary Model Buffets (154xxx). It produces a very nice sound, has good intonation and appears to be made of excellent wood.

I also have another 1975 R13 (162xxx) which does not have the Anniversary designation. It is one of my favorite Buffets in my collection.

FWIW - Clark Fobes once wrote that he considered the run of Buffets made in 1975 (153324 - 163567) to be quite desirable instruments ...GBK

Hello, I just found this forum. I have a 1975 Anniversary special clarinet as well. I can't figure out if it has a serial number or where one would fine it. We are evaluating insurance options and I thought it would be a good idea to find out the value of the instrument. It's in good shape, though it could use an overhaul since I haven't played seriously since college in the early 80s.
Do you have advice?

Thanks,
Carole
