 more about student clarinets

Pursuant to a recent topic about poor quality clarinets - the Forte clarinet was highly recommended here, followed by the Yamaha. I forbade our rep from bringing any further Selmers - this year's student model is terrible. I asked him to have his company check out the Forte - unfortunately they want a telephone number because they can't handle the internet, so I will get in contact with the Doctor. In the meantime, however, he's pushing the Buffet Model 11, which they are calling a student model. My understanding, from reading previous postings, was that it was not exactly an entry-level instrument and is certainly quite a bit more expensive than the Forte. Am I incorrect here?

Yes, sorry, it's been a long day. No price as yet. Have you seen any that were manufactured this year for entry into the market?

By the way - Paul from Dallas, Texas - any possibility you attended NTSU, now known as University of North Texas? I spent two wonderful years in Denton.

Nope, I went to TCU in Fort Worth. I teach clarinet in the McKinney ISD.

I play tested a brand new E11 last week. I didn't notice any change from the prior years horns, but didn't look at it too closely. And I didn't check the serial number - it might have been a year or so old (it came from WW&BW).

Forte's are good choices - but don't have quite as good intonation as the E11's. Forte's are $200 or so cheaper than E11's and come with a decent mouthpiece. E11's, you need a different mouthpiece than the stock one.

Local music stores list E11's for 1300-1400 or so. Highway robbery ;)
