Is anyone aware of any auctions in the new england area for clarinets or sax? also looking to upgrade to wood any thoughts for under $1000? thanks

Clarinuts, a BB sponsor, is located in Oakham, Mass. (NW of Worcester).
They're not an auction but they deal in pre-owned instruments; you might be better off buying from a dealer rather than taking a chance at an auction. $1000 puts you in the range of a new intermediate clarinet or a used professional one. You'll have to decide for yourself which way to go. As far which model to go with, there are lots of them and each one has its adherants. Search the BB and you'll find many, many comments.

For under $1000, check out used pro models. Often you can get a great deal, and have it overhauled for around there. However, if you want something shiny you might also consider a modestly priced intermediate model (although not as good as a pro, it can get you by).
