I'm hoping a knowledgeable clarinetist can help me. I am looking to purchase a Buffett Crampon R13 clarinet from an unknown 3rd party for my daughter. This is an expensive purchase and I have to buy it sight unseen, except for a picture. The seller assures me it is great shape. I tried to lookup the serial number on Buffet Crampon's web site (466659 ) and it comes back unknown. Its supposed to be a 2001 model# BC1131-2
Should I be concerned?
Thanks,
Karen

According to their serial number search, the R13 #466659 was made in 2000, so there's the chance it would have been bought in 2001.
You have no reason to worry at all, provided it has been well maintained.

The most recent pro model number in their database is 511632 from 2002 (that could be any of the pro models), and that took some effort to find - they should make it easier for everyone and list the numbers!

I hope there's a return policy with a 3rd party party escrow service holding the cash ... it's a lot of money, and even when the seller is 100% honest there's a chance the clarinet is a dog ...
