Ok .. I'm starting a tread for solo duets in an orchestra piece.
- Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, Opening with principle and 2nd clarinet,
and ..
- The Hebrides Overture!

I'm doing the Hebrides in September, but sadly not on clarinet but on oboe.
There's a fantastic Glazunov piece with the clarinets in thirds and 6ths, but I can't remember if it's part of one of his symphonies.

I don't know about it being my favorite, but the 2nd movement of Dvorak Symphony #8 has some very nice and exposed duets for the clarinets. The dynamic range for these duets makes them very interesting and a challenge to play.

The slow movement of Beethoven's 9th has some gorgeous clarinet writing, and the bit after the beginning of his Leonore 3 where it modulates into a flat key.
And there's plenty going on in Brahms' symphonies to keep us all happy.

I'm quite impressed by Sjostakovitch these days, there is lots of beautiful, amusing and interesting moments for all types of clarinets (Eb,soprano and bass)
I'm working my way trough a book full of excerpts of the clarinet (all types) passages in his symphonies : not always simple, but very interesting material for exercising.

The opening measures of the overture to "The Red Shoes", by Brian Easdale, 1948 The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Thomas Beecham Bart.
Anyone have a clue who the two clarinetists were?

Not exactly two clarinets duetting, but the clarinet/'cello (in the 3rd mvmt) twin-tub combo and other clarinet goings on, especially in the 2nd mvmt. of Dvorak's 'Cello concerto is something special, and not to be missed (especially the Rostrapovitch/Berlin Phil version).

Ponchiellis "Il Convegno" is my all time favorite duet (accompanied)
http://www.mytempo.com/ponc.mp3 you can hear 2 of my University students perform it live. Dania Hegvik and Mike Esterman - I taught Mike from 5th grade all the way through his Senior year at U. Penn and Dania in High School and on the side at Temple (she was with Gigliotti at Temple). The 2 of them ended up getting married - met in my studio and at first were fierce competitors.

I think the Glazounov piece you cited is the Entracte from the ballet Raymonda. I agree that it is lovely clarinet writing.
How about the extended clarinet duet in Shostakovich 10th Symphony?

I think you're right on the Glazunov - it's in 3/4, and in the usual Russian style the strings take the same melody later on.
I think I was worrying more about the cor anglais solo when I did Shostakovich 10, shame as I can't remember the clarinet duet - maybe it's in my memory somewhere, but I'll definitely have to borrow a recording of it.

Is Dania Hegvik, perhaps a daughter (granddaughter?) of Ted Hegvik, retired sax professor at WestChester Univ.? He is an incredible sax virtuoso-now playing bass clarinet in a community band in the Seattle area (using one of my old Leblancs). If there is a blood connection, and if you believe in inherited talent, she must be a hell of a player!

Yup - I play in a Trio with Ted's X wife. Dania is his daughter and the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
She played Clarinet for many years and then as a Junior took up the Oboe just to screw around with it for 6 months.
She got 1st chair Regional Orchestra which is 1/2 of the state of PA.
Then she switched back to Clarinet and resumed her Clarinet lessons.
I guess we could say "the oboe was easy for her".

If only! Does the oboe get easier? I've asked many pro oboists (sadly not Heinz Holliger or Maurice Bourge) and they're still plagued with the usual problems - the poxy reed!
But a couple more orchestral clarinet duets of note:
The Mazurka from Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake' (I think) and the duet in Bartok's 'Concerto for Orchestra'.

Chris P- I'm glad you mentioned the Bartok.....I was starting to wonder if anyone would before I got to.
Also, Nielsen 5!
I think Nielsen 4 as well, in addition to Rapsodie Espagnol ( I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of the right piece).
