Hi guys, I have been recently browsing on the web for prospective grad schools as I will be graduating soon in a couple years. What are some of the grad school's expectations for a music major besides maintaning an average 3.0 GPA? I'll be doing a senior recital and I know that most grad schools would make an exception for a video of your senior recital as an audition. What are some audition pieces (on the menu) for a senior recital/grad audition, that you can recommend? I'm particularly looking at schools in the EU. What are some of the requirements for a US degree background to be admitted into any of the European conservatories?!? Hmm.. I would like to study in Italy or Germany. Besides the language, I'm learning German for the next two years at college now, so I could study in places like Vienna, Austria etc. Do you guys have any recommendations and schools I should look into? I know its far-fetched, but I just want to be prepared! I've known quite a number of professionals from Tash Kent State conservatory, I think some where in Russia. How competitive is it to get into a European conservatory? What about the music university - Sibelius Academy in Finland?

I hope you didn't tell your friends from Tashkent that you thought it was in Russia, or even in Europe.
Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. It was part of the USSR. It is not in Europe, it's just a little way north of Afghanistan. It has Islamic fundamentalists, it has earthquakes, and it is a police state.
Your friends may well have been ethnic Russians, however; there are plenty still there, though I'd guess many would be happy to leave.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.
