I tend to agree that this might not be up his alley.
Incidentally, isn't "Gigliotti" the name of his line of products (now managed by his family) and therefore copyrighted somehow?

it is his family.
That's his site which has his reeds, etc - not a splinter site using his name, it's a Gigliotti product line!

Oh my. Didn't realize that.
Hmmm . . . well, if they're ok with it, I guess that's what'd matter. But I do have to say, I would not have expected something like that in the Gigliotti line of products. Not after his (IMO) awesome reeds (albeit a bit pricey), great mouthpiece, great clarinet swab, and excellent ligature. And now, THIS?!?!?!
Interesting at the least. Thanks for putting it up there, Dave B. I think we can honestly say we now have a new leader in the quest for the cheapest 'hand-finished' clarinet mouthpiece produced.

TaeLing = Gotta get the money. No Doubt, Mr Gigliotti would never have stood for that nonsense.
I bet he would have used one of his favorite expressions: "No body needs that"
I can remember several funny occasions when he used that phrase, once in reference to Richard Stoltzman.

The weirdest thing just happened -- all of the music on my shelf that he wrote on burst into flames when I opened up that site.

I ordered a red and a blue one - swear to gawd. Will make a great conversation piece.
And I'm sure at one point I'll be able to get some laughs with it in a professional setting
Maybe I'll show up to play duets with Ricardo with it.

consequently, some of the recent models of the original gigliotti mouthpiece , now known as the "maestro" are made on high quality blanks from somewhere in switzerland. A few samples came my way, and I found that they played better than the ones that have, in the last decade or so, really declined in quality. The older Babbitt blank gigliotti mouthpieces were pretty good, esepcially the ones that were made on "casting 1." Previous to these mouthpieces, were ones made of rod rubber from the old otto link factory (before elkhart - sax mouthpieces from this vintag are real collectors pieces). Although Tony G himself said that these were junk (apparently he had some sort of argument or falling out with otto), it is not the case. If you can find one of those, get it refaced to about 36-22-12-4, and u will have a mouthpiece with some pretty similar playing characteristics to a good chedeville. I have two such mouthpieces, both play better than the ch. chedeville i have with the identical facing.
These mouthpieces crop up once in a while on ebay, and if you can bid on one, you should. I really believe that the otto link gigliotti mouthpiece are somepretty darn good mouthpieces. The blank is really lively. On the other hand, you never know what you are gonna get with a babbitt blank.

I can't comment on what Mr. Gigliotti would have thought, but I wonder if they will be ok student mouthpieces. David, let us know how they play. I have a new student, eleven years old, who is so proud of her Vito red clarinet, loaned to her by a neighbor. She'll be pretty good pretty quickly. As new teacher, I'm inclined to recommend a better mouthpiece to all my beginners; I recommend the Clark Fobes when I do. So far, the Vito is fine for her, but I wish I had a good red mouthpiece to recommend if she needs it.
