Can you take pictures of the barrel, bell, and upper joint for us? Sometimes you can tell by the keywork, sometimes by whatever faint imagery might be there.

Does it play better than yours? If so, does the price of THIS one directly reflect it's playing ability? (meaning, if it's 500 dollars more than what YOUR clarinet is worth, does it play like a clarinet that's 500 dollars more SHOULD play? - subjective, but that's what really counts in the end I think)

Are there ANY markings you can describe to us to help us out?

The #1 crucial factor to determine is where it was made. The better instruments are made in France rather than Germany. Secondly, the serial number can be traced fairly closely to a year of manufacture, giving additional information regarding model. Also, is there anything "non-standard" about the clarinet: additional keys, etc. We could help more if you provided that information.

This is an R-13. It was made during 1960-1972

Thanks so much. Your help is wonderful. There is nothing 'non-standard' about it that I could discover. The serial number is 88323.

that serial number dates it to 1965
search ebay completed listing to get an idea on pricing
depends a lot on condition , whether or not it has any repaired cracks, etc

google on 'buffet clarinet serial number' and you'll find sites with serial number lists

Vytas, was that dating based on plating plus C#/G# spring? Any other clues?

And according to GBK, one of the horns of the "Golden Years" of R13s! You could possibly have yourself a real winner there.http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=170831&t=170719

From recesses deep within his psyche he never knew he had - probably due to his internet addiction, his semi-pro internet search methods, and lastly, his spongelike-clarinet shaped mind (proven with an MRI - Full Boehm, no doubt!)
