Hey
I am the proud owner of a LeBlanc Opus (the original) and now a Buffet Vintage!!! I have a couple of questions. Do I need to play both often to keep the bore... hydrated I guess would be the right word. Or should I decide on a favorite and stick to that one (no, I don't think I'll sell any of them)?? If so, would I run the risk of cracking the unused one?? How do you all who have both Bb and A clarinets keep them both hydrated?? Do you play one as often as the other??

GBK must surely be the foremost expert on this topic. He probably holds the record for owning the greatest number of R13s.
I play my favourite one and leave the other in its case. When #1 goes in for a checkup or repair, the other one gets used.

Clarinets are meant to be played - not stared at in the case.
Each one has its own personality and character - enjoy the differences.
I have more than 20 clarinets (13 Buffets + others) and during the course of the week, all get played, although I primarily practice on the A clarinet.
Why play them all? Why not....
BTW - I would suspect that one of the first signs of a clarinet that is not being played would be dry rot overtaking the tenon corks...GBK

Oh, okay. I guess I'll alternate days and that way both will be "performance ready" and I will get and keep a feel for both of them!!!! Thanks Hans, GBK, and Bnatural!!!!!

I also have several wooden clarinets, and play them all
regularly. I make a point of practicing on my two A's and
my Eb as much as possible, since they don't get used as
much otherwise. The Bb's get a lot more use at rehearsals
and gigs than the A's and Eb do.

You need to play all your instruments every once in a while. You could go a month without playing one, but it's best to keep them playing so you don't have pad and other problems.

Another thought...whenever I have an instrument that I haven't been able to play for several months...I sell it on eBay.
