In the winter, I bought some Vandoren 56 Rue Lepic #4 Reeds, and they were awesome with great response and with rapid tounging. Now it's mid-June and there are terribly stuffy and tounging is a chore. Does this have something to do with the humidity? Do people have different sets of reeds for summer and winter or do they just alter them? Thanks for your time.

I have to use different reeds in Texas than I do in Pennsylvania, so I assume it could have something to do with climate....

Both humidity AND altitude can affect cane reeds. I would imagine temperature would also affect them, but have not heard any specifics about that.
I switched to Legere about 5 years ago and probably will never switch back...No matter whether it's January or July here they're always the same!
Of course I'm lazy and would rather spend my time here than adjusting reeds...LOL!

Reeds will swell during humid months, making the response and articulation slower.
If the wooden doors in your home swell during those months, why wouldn't you think the reeds react the same way?
Adjust your reeds accordingly for those months. You might want to also consider droping down 1/4 to 1/2 strength.
Some players will also switch to a thinner blank reed during the months of high humidity ...GBK

I always like to have lighter reeds than I would normally play on them handy, especially for the summer, as the humidity in most places I've lived increases significantly during the summer months. This causes my reeds to swell, and get that stuffiness and unresponsiveness that you refer to. If it's indoors and air conditioned, those winter reeds may work after sitting in there for a while.
