I am a beginner player. When I practice, I hear the sound of my breath in addition to the sound of the horn. Since I do not take lessons and practice on my own I do not know if this is a normal sound. Any feedback is great. Thanks.

you might want to check the postings under "Leaking Air" down below. It's possible there's some air (breath) escaping out the sides of your mouth - this is not unusual and can/should be eliminated/reduced as your embouchure develops.

Some of the top professional players have a little air sound too. Some even do it on purpose

Do it on purpose? Really!
I know a very capable player who kept getting turned down for recording work. I know why, but he never seemed to realize!
rockymountainbo, we need to clarify... Where does the air sound come from, the corners of your mouth, the area of the reed, or somewhere in your mouth/throat/chest?

The pitfalls/drawbacks/consequences of air escaping while you're playing - usually from corners of mouth - vary depending upon the venue.
You can get away with some air escaping when playing in orchestral or chamber settings in a concert hall.
You can't get away with much, if any, of that "airy" sound in the recording studio. The mics will pick it up too easily and the engineers will go crazy trying to get rid of it - or rid of you.
