How can i obtain this ligature. This is the 1st model, the older one. Also, does anyone have any opinions about the ligature?
Thanks, Aaron M. Johnson

Didn't know there was more than one model. Have been using an ED for about a year and am happy with it. Can't seem to find them for sale anywhere recently.....any model.

The first version ED ligature came out long time ago. I asked the person at the Rovner Products, she said that the first version is discontinued and they do not have the material to make the ligatures. She suggested looking into eBAY to find one.

I am using the current version and I love it.

The first generation model (1980's?) of the Rovner Eddie Daniels ligature (original model #1R-ED) had 2 fixed metal plates which contacted the reed.

The ligature also had 8 soft rubber "ribs" (4 on each side) on the inside of the ligature, which made contact with the mouthpiece (similar to a Gigliotti ligature). Later, the design was slightly changed, and the 8 "ribs" were made of hard plastic, instead of the soft rubber, like the ligature. This, I thought was a bad decision, as the ligature then tended to slip.

The next generation(s) of the Eddie Daniels ligatures (ED I, ED II) had a different metal plate system which allowed for different configurations of contact with the reed.

IMO, the very first generation Eddie Daniels ligature was far better than any of the subsequent or current versions with the different plate positions. It used the principals of both the inverted Bonade ligatue and Gigliotti ligature with Rovner materials.

I still have a few of the very first generation Eddie Daniels Rovner ligatures and use them because I find that they help project the sound with a brilliance not found in traditional Rovner ligatures.

BTW - The first generation Eddie Daniels ligature were made for all instruments, and are my preferred ligature for both alto and tenor saxophones..GBK

I've been playing on one for 8 years and love it. Don't know where you'd find one, though.

I've tried out one of my friend's current ED lig., and I love it! My tone is clear, but it tends to be soft. I tried his lig, and my tone actually PROJECTED! This is a big deal for me! This lig also adds focus and it centers the tone.

I love my EDII ligature on my Bb clarinet. On my Eb I play the EDI, both are great ligatures... but I personally find the EDII better (Fits also on my Eb)

Hi, I was just checking out the very latest sale notice on the net from the Woodwind and Brasswind. Believe it or not, they are having a closeout on the Eddie Daniels 1 ligature.

You might want to check this out.

If I am looking at the same closeout sale that you are, it is the model 1RS - which is the regular Rovner for Eb clarinet...GBK

Hi again, and guilty as charged. In zipping through the ww/bw sale ad I noticed the Eddie Daniel 1 ligature and was so excited that I did not catch the E-flat clarinet designation.

For me, it shall be 12 lashes with a wet semiquaver in two four time.

Hey, have you thought of playing an eefer ?

I had to do a double take to see that it was an E and not a B. They're cleaning house due to a move ......there are a couple of other tricky entries also...

I play on the ED II and love it. I bought it about 4 months ago. WWBW had it listed but was out of stock. I found mine at MusicansFriend in stock at a slightly lower cost.

ED1 is quite brilliant. The soft rubber ribs on ED1 that GBK refers to above allow for the lightest of pressure to hold the reed steady.

They are unobtainable: I got mine with a second hand clarinet. If you see one on ebay, buy it.

I sold my Vandoren leather on the strength of this one, because it is night and day. The Vandoren may look nice, but it's a pretty hopeless ligature, and ED1 certainly shows it up.

Though a very different design, the Bay ligature helps produce a similarly free and resonant sound, with fractionally more projection. At the price, the Bay is unbeatable.
