Any Melburnians play in the recent broadcast of the VCA Symphony Orchestra? The Ravel Daphnis et Chloe Suite 2 wasn't bad at all.
Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

I (aka LeWhite) played Bass Clarinet in that concert. I did a terrible job, but everyone else was great! By the way, it was the full ballet, not either of the suites.

Morrigan ... it wasn't the full ballet, sorry ... it started from "sunrise and the bird calls" which begins mid way through the score. I followed along with my complete ballet full score. You played "Suite No. 2" with chorus.

Sorry diz I dunno if they cut it or something, but I played in it, I should know, and we did the full ballet with chorus.
Was it definitely last year's performance?

Yeah - you played the full ballet version with chorus, but not the complete score, it runs over an hour. You did the standard thing all orchestra do, nothing wrong with that, as the first part of the ballet isn't as exhilirating as the 2nd part (erroneously called Suite 2). It was on the Radio (Classic FM on the weekend just past).
Trust me - I know the score intimately as I studied (the full thing) when I was at music college.
Regardless of this ... how did you find the bass clarinet part? I think, personally, it's murderously tricky in places.

Oh OK, I thought it was the whole thing. It certainly wasn't just one of the Suites though, they're much shorter I think.
The bass clarinet part was utterly painful. It's probably the most difficult thing I've ever played, and it didn't help that back then I wasn't exactly the most crash-hot clarinetist or musician either...
How brilliant was the 1st Flute? I never get sick of her playing (LOL except for our small stint as flatmates... Picc practice is NOT nice to listen to!)
What did you think of the 1st Clarinet?
