Does anybody know what the doughnut key, the fat ring over the second finger hole on some vintage professional clarinets, was for? Thanks.

I believe that Buffet [perhaps other makers] employed this "special" ring-key on early 1900 cls to provide a "fork Eb/Bb". Others, Buff. owners, can give you better info. This "additional " fingering [one of the 4 Full Boehm's] is accomplished by other makers by a small pad/hole in this area to "tune-up" these notes. Don
