Next week we're performing a "new" bass-clarinet concerto by the Swedish composer Anders Eliasson. I say "new", but it was first performed by Malmoe SO a year ago.
It was originally commissioned by us in 1995 and written for the Swedish bass-clarinet soloist Tommy Lundberg, bass clarinet of the Malmoe SO.
However, Tommy got sick in cancer shortly after and died before he had a chance to perform it. The concerto went back to the drawer until Tommy’s crown-prince Bo Pettersson of the Norrkoeping SO took on the difficult task to master this concerto.
As a gesture in memoriam of Tommy Lundberg, Bo first performed it with the orchestra where Tommy worked and now finally it’s our turn. I’ve been excited by this moment for three years now and next week I finally get to hear it.
I thought this was worth mentioning for the people who are interested in new repertoire for bass-clarinet. Think about cancer foundations if you’ll ever perform it.

Try to write an e-mail to this address:
<info@stim.se> Ask for information about Anders Eliasson's bass-clarinet concerto and if it's possible to purchase it through them, or they will tell you where to find it otherwise.
STIM is an organisation for Swedish composers:
