Can this be done? Is it advisable? I have a 1976 10G. Looking on the WWBW website, I see that there are Buffet "upgrade" barrels available. No such luck for Selmer. Thanks.

The 10G has a moenigg style barrel. The tenon size of a Selmer 10G (all selmers I believe) is slightly bigger than the tenon size of a buffet. So if you want to put a buffet barrel on a selmer, you'd have to have the barrel widened a bit.
Take a look at "DEG" barrels (I think made for leblancs but basically have that wider opening, should fit on a selmer). They come in different tapers.
Or send your clarinet away to a custom barrel maker.
I also have a 10G and my buffet barrels won't fit on it.

The bore should be nearly the same on the 10G as on the Buffet.
The sockets may vary slightly but can easily be accommodated by a tech.
The tenon lengths are likely similar, altho I would check for a gap.
oh yeah forgot one thing....this is for the 10G
the 10S and the others have much different bore. (added after initial post)

Yes, the Selmer 10G was designed to be Selmer's answer to the Buffet R-13 and was supposed to have the same bore size and similar sound. As to whether or not it would work--try it and see.

Anthony Gigliotti had a Buffet cusomized by late Hans Moennig. He made 10G with Selmer designed exactly based on his own Buffet. That story was cited many times in Klarinet mailing list or this BBS. Hans Moennig developed his barrel with Ralph MacLane, which is also elaborated together with how the barrel should be matched with a particular clarinet first year, or modified later,in Hite site.
I use a Chadash "A" barrel for my Selmer 10SII. Since "A" means a smaller bore, its bore matches that of 10SII. However lower end of the barrel does not contact with the upper end of 10SII. It does not cause any bad things . Same thing may happen.
By the way, a 10G used by Benny Goodman is auctioned now.

Buffet barrels won't work well with 10Gs. I've tried several, and intonation simply isn't as good as with the Selmer 10G barrels, which are rather variable, though the best are rather good.
If you want a barrel customised for the 10G, and for some reason want more than your current barrel gives, go to Walter Grabner at Clarinet Xpress and ask him to make you one. he also plays on a 10G.
Although the 10G is very similar to an R13 the bore tapers are slightly different.

Granny is undoubtedly correct..again...try it! My experience with my Selmer-Elkhart Signet Special is that it is very fussy about both barrels and mouthpieces therefore my Guess is that it won't work properly.

Get a custom barrel for the 10G - Buffet Barrel won't be optimum for it like others posted.
Here's a wild one - due to the bore size, the Selmer Signature Barrel is 62.5mm WITH IT BEING IN TUNE.

David....would you mind mentioning where the 62.5 bbl length verification comes from? If that is correct then it explains the slight mark on my barrel where someone maybe intended to shorten it!! ...but didn't.

You absolutely must not mix competing brands on your clarinet or it could possibly explode (or worst!). Didn't they teach you anything at the Conservatory?
jeez, these kids today....next thing you know they'll be slapping Leblanc mouthpieces on Yamaha clarinets and who knows what sort of nuclear conflagration THAT could result in?

I one time tried a Buffet mouthpiece on a Buffet clarinet, you don't want to know what that caused...!

Would the mark on your barrel be where someone found the optimal position for the barrel? Maybe the previous owner or the dealer you got it from had already done this.

Carrie...I'm not convinced of the "optimum barrel position" concept. I have no experience that it is viable. The mark is a transverse (circumferential) shallow "cut" that has the appearance of someone starting to shorten the barrel and then chickening out. Thanks for your concern. bob
