New Jon Manasse CD out now!
Author: TOR

Just for anyone who is interested-

I just found out that Jon Manasse is releasing a new solo CD. I forget what the title is exactly (it might be "Three Great Concertos" or something like that), but here is the repertoire:

Mozart: Clarinet Concerto
Copland: Clarinet Concerto
Nielsen: Clarinet Concerto

To order it, go to www.uncommonlyclassical.com. The CD is not on their web site yet, but if you call their customer care number, they can send it right out.

Sounds like a great recording!

Manasse is amazing, definatly one of the premire clarinetists of our time.

BTW, the CD is also available directly from the XLNT page of ClassicalCds.net at http://www.classicalcds.net/xlnt -- and a bit cheaper there as well.

My first exposure to Manasse's playing was last Thursday on SiriusXM, playing the Brahms Second Sonata. I was flabbergast at the gloriously fine, nuanced playing: the tone, the dialog with piano, the exquisite phrasing. I've got 3 recordings of it, but none of the compare to what I heard Manasse do with it.

At the time I didn't know who it was I was listening to, and it took multiple phone calls (ultimately to the Sirius' VP in Charge of Content, a Scott Greenstein), to get the information. I've just ordered the CD from Amazon, a Harmonia Mundi label (I believe from 2008), and will be playing it for other clarinetists on Friday.

I know the Sonata, play it, and have heard big names play it. But hearing Manasse play it was like I was hearing it for the very first time. I believe he has set a new standard in clarinetistry.
